They are nine women who lived closer to each other in the same street named Pallimulla, Linda Para (Well Street) in Matara. Though their husbands are employed these nine women too were contributing their family income by various types of self employments, but unfortunately all their wealth was washed away in few minutes with the experience of Tsunami. They were disappointed they did not know what to do or where to start. So many organizations were on rehabilitation and they went behind them.
They got many things, but those things were unable to make them a stable livelihood. Finally they have heard about Caritas SED Galle from one of the Caritas Self Help Group member in the neighboring lane, according to that they made a request asking for assistance. Immediately an officer from Caritas SED Galle visited these families conducted several meetings and in the course of time they were formed into a small self help group. The group was named as "Dehami". Office bearers were appointed by them. President is Priyanthimalie Munaweera, Secretary is Chalet Vasawathie Paranahewa and the treasurer is G. G. Sepalika.
Several awareness sessions and required trainings were conducted on manufacturing exercise books for which they have desired and requested. Finally they were assisted in implementing an exercise book making project and special training programme was conducted by Industrial Development Board on book making. After the training the group was provided with required equipments and materials.
Presently they are producing good quality exercise books with the trade name of “ SAHAJA'' They are getting many orders and approximately have a profit of 5,000.00 SLR for each member for a month.
They are very happy with their present progress and they are grateful to Caritas SED Galle for making a path for long term sustainable livelihood endeavor. |
